On 3rd February, 1915, the Royal Horse Guards of 8 Cavalry Brigade, 3rd Cavalry Division left their billets in Lynde and took over a section of the line east of Ypres. Harry Oggelsby was killed on 4th February when, about 9am, nearby French troops fired a mortar and the enemy retaliated by firing one of their own which hit the left hand trench held by Royal Horse Guards, killing one man and wounding five more. |
